A lot of talent, a lot of opportunity

Year 7 - Wagon Wheels 5 A side at Yeovil College

Y7 acquitted themselves well again this year at the annual 5-a-side competition. After topping their group they beat Bucklers Mead in the semi-final 1-0. In the final they met Westfield and after normal time and golden goals they eventually lost in a sudden death penalty shoot out. Team members were - Stuart Rowlands, George Rogers, Tom Green, Sam Wakelam, Jack Sherry and Chris Adams.

Under the tutelage of Sensai Catherine Purnell, four students from KA took part in the National Judo finals at Cradley Heath. Georgina Johnson and Zoe Zimmerman, took bronze medals in the final and Aidan Johnson and Michael Ball can now proudly claim to be National School Judo Champions, pictured here with their trophy and the girls with their medals.

Late Bus

From January 15th we intend to run two late buses from KA to enable students to extend their learning. The buses will leave at 5:00 p.m. one travelling to Charlton Musgrove and Bruton the second to Horsington, Cheriton, Templecombe, Henstridge, Milborne Port & Charlton Horethorne. The library will be open: sculpture, IT and Maths are just some of the classes that will be available. Full details at the start of next term.

Christmas Concert

The Christmas concert took place on Tuesday 3rd December with an audience of around 200 people including students supporting their friends. The orchestra began proceedings with a lively rendition of the ‘Star Wars’ theme music. Other highlights of the night included the jazz band who were very entertaining despite some runaway drumming! There was also a notable solo from Mark Gulliford on the piano and a reminder of days gone by with a fine performance of the ‘The Barbershop Blues’ by the Chamber Choir.

Primary Concert

A new venture this year, initiated by Miss Emma Fletcher, Head of Music, was the Primary School Music Day. Our feeder schools were invited here to take part in some music workshops and to give a concert in the evening. Four of the local schools agreed to join us and the evening performance was a great success. Horsington sent some fine clarinet and recorder players, Templecombe sent instrumentalists and a choir, Charlton Horethorne students did a bit of everything with playing, singing and dressing up and Milborne Port brought their 43 strong choir. The performances in the evening were of a very high standard and it was all greatly appreciated by the packed audience.

Proms

On the 6th November Miss Fletcher, Mrs. Sclater and Mr. Tinsley took 42 students to see the Schools’ Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The day began with a visit to the Science Museum followed by shopping in Harrods and rounded off with the prom concert. The whole day was a great success even if the parents were not entirely sure they appreciated having to collect their children at 1 a.m. !!
