Merry Christmas From the Governors and Staff of King Arthur’s

The end of an era

On Wednesday 11th December, we were delighted to welcome John Shakesby as our guest speaker at Presentation Evening. As many of you will know John will leave Wincanton Primary at the end of this term after 12 successful years as Headteacher. Some of the students who received their certificates from John had joined Wincanton Primary just weeks before John - his first reception class!

'A' Level @ KA

Alec Cryer, Head of Sixth Form at Yeovil College has been working with students in Y11 this term doing some preparation for 'A' level Mathematics: this is proving very successful. 'My brain hurts' was a comment from a student after one of these lessons and how good to hear Mr. Cryer say that their mathematical ability and interest in the subject were the best he had seen for years.

At this year’s presentation evening 6 students received certificates in a Free Standing Mathematics Qualification which is 'A' level standard and worth a module of 'AS'.

The mathematics department is also working in collaboration with Exeter University on a pilot teacher-training project. We shall be working with a group of students for the Spring Term as a University Practice Department. As part of this project Mrs. Morris spent time at half term in Hungary at a practice school observing their training methods and has been appointed an Honorary University Fellow. We look forward to having the students in school next term.
