A TASTE OF THE FUTURE

Business Education Links

Y9 students experienced a thought provoking day courtesy of local industry/business. As part of the school’s Work Related Learning Programme students spent the day working alongside employees at Foster Yeoman Quarries, Safeway, Yeovilton, South Somerset District Council Offices and with the Ranger on Ham Hill, and Oliver Dowdings Organic Farm.

Work Experience

This year current Y10 students have found 176 work experience placements in many diverse careers from hairdressing to engineering and from computer work to horticulture. The two week experience tries to give the students an insight into the world of work and the opportunity to relate subject knowledge gained in school to the working environment. Connie Hewitt is pictured working in Westhill Nursery and Tom Wigley at Wincanton Motor Services.

Road Runners for Y10

Y10 students took part in a variety of workshops over two days. The workshops were aimed at road safety awareness and car ownership, covering many different aspects. Students also had the opportunity to drive of a car . Sponsorship from local Masonic Lodges was a great help in funding this venture. Feedback from the students was good and we hope to offer this to others next year.

Could you spare an hour a month to mentor a Y10/11 student ?

We require mentors from all walks of life to guide students during the critical time of Years 10/11.

Mentors can help students:
* Improve their motivation and achievement
* Build self esteem and confidence
* Prepare students for further education, training and employment opportunities
* Develop skills, qualities and attitudes needed for adult life
* Help with career decisions

Training will be provided and all mentors will need to complete a criminal background check via the disclosure procedure.
