EXPERIENCE FOR PRIMARY PUPILS

Sport

Over 180 youngsters from our partner primary schools took part in the area cross country championships at KA. Some of our students lead the races, setting the pace and showing the way around the course. Everyone did well and enjoyed themselves with pupils from Horsington and Wincanton primary schools overall winners:

Preparation for Transfer

On Wednesday 3rd July 178 Y6 students spent a day with us meeting their tutors and class mates for September. The following week all the Y5 pupils from our partner primaries were invited to spend 2 ‘taster’days at KA. These days are part of our work to ensure a smooth and stress free transfer to secondary education.

Enrichment afternoon

On the 21st June able students from Y5 & 6 in our partner primaries joined some of our Y7 able students . The theme of the afternoon was ‘where can I find this?’. The youngsters worked in teams gathering information with the winners receiving a £5 book token.

Book Review - KA And Wincanton Primary Students

Year 5 Students from Wincanton Primary School and Year 10 pupils from KA’s got together for a fun day held in the Library Resource Centre. Each Group consisted of 4 primary school students, 2 KA’s students and 1 adult. The task was to look at one of the 8 books shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal. The book was studied in detail; the cover, the story, illustrations and appeal to the chosen audience. Each group wrote a review on their book, which was in the afternoon posted onto the web page. The favourite book was Sometimes I Like to Curl up in a Ball, which is about a shy Koala bear. The Greenaway Books are judged by a team of judges from across the country and in the afternoon one of the judges, Tracey Dickenson joined us to talk about her role as a judge and which books she particularly enjoyed out of the ones shortlisted.
