  Course Notes

Students continue to follow the Mathematics Enhanced Programme supplemented for set 6 with work from the Maths Direct text books.

Topics that are covered in Y9 include basic operations, indices & standard form, linear graphs, probability & transformations.

At the end of each unit students do an assessment test based on the work that they have covered. Students’ progress is monitored at all times and moves are made regularly between groups.

Students are prepared for the end of Key Stage 3 by revision and by reviewing questions from previous year tests. One of the papers has to be done without a calculator and students have also to do a mental test. With this in mind it is of great use to the students to become proficient in knowing their tables and being able to perform mental calculations easily. Parents can help enormously in encouraging these skills : practising tables and using examples of numbers in everyday life e.g. checking itemised till receipts.
