The Careers Education and Guidance programme aims to help students
do the following things : to know themselves better; be aware of
education, training and career opportunities; to make choices about
their own continuing education and training and about career paths;
and to manage transition to new roles and situations.
The department will give individual guidance, a planned programme
during PSHE time in years 9. 10 and 11, access to information via
the careers library, various Open Days and Parents’ Evenings and
students are given an opportunity to broaden their awareness of
the world of work. The department will also help in the compilation
of the students’ National Record of Achievement.
The outcomes of Career Education and Guidance in Key Stage 3 will
focus on the following areas:
SELF
- considering personal qualities and skills;
- reflecting on interests in particular work roles and activities;
- developing key skills and capabilities;
- developing career management skills including self-reliance
and self presentation.
CAREER
- investigating the knowledge and skills which people need at work;
- using occupational and labour market information to investigate opportunities;
- considering the changing patterns of work and careers;
- investigating social and moral issues at work;
- developing ways of organising information about work.
TRANSITION
- making decisions concerning learning and the curriculum;
- using action planning and the recording of achievement to support career development;
- seeking and using information and guidance to shape plans.
