  Course Notes

Students will begin in Y8 with a study of the European Union and the changes in the quality of life in Italy since its membership of the EU.

Using a variety of sources, students will investigate the physical factors, including weathering and erosion, which have moulded the European landscape. A study of river valleys will be followed by an in-depth study of flooding, focussing eventually on Bangledesh and the Mississippi Basin in the USA.

In the second term, we examine the global distribution of earthquakes and volcanoes. Students will investigate the relationship between earthquakes, volcanoes and plate margins; they further consider the social and economic implications of these phenomena.

The final study of the year is into the global distribution of population and why people decide to live where they do in large and small numbers.

Students will be expected to use ICT for research and presentation.
