Personal Social and Health Education is fundamental
to understanding the way people live together and ‘interact’. It
helps us function, cope and succeed in social life. It will be dealt
with in all areas of school work as well as in the specific PSHE
lessons. The School Council and Year Councils allow students to
raise issues of concern and to debate them in a democratic forum.
The school’s “ethos” and the happiness of our students are underpinned
by the PSHE programme..
The themes and issues met in PSHE relate closely to the maturity
of the students : therefore they may reappear in a ‘spiral’ model,
being dealt with in greater depth, or with greater sophistication,
as the students become older.
The programme is taught by the students’ tutor. It is designed
to be as active as possible and will often lead onto social activities
such as charity fund raising, first aid or community involvement.
Appropriate speakers and theatre workshops are often invited in
to enhance the programme.
