  Course Notes

In the first term, students will be taught how to conduct a geographical enquiry on the settlement in which they live. They will then learn mapping skills, including grid references, height, measurement and scale and direction using 1:50000 and 1:25000 Ordinance Survey maps.

In the second term students will identify the location of Great Britain on the earth’s surface. This will be followed by an investigation into the characteristics of settlements in the local area, and the reasons for their location, growth and nature. Students will undertake a field study based on ‘function’ in a settlement and reasons for change in function over time.

In the third term students will learn about the factors controlling agriculture and the effects of some European Union decisions on farming locally and World Sport.

Students will be expected to use ICT for research and preparation.

Throughout KS3 students will be set targets and given advice on how to achieve the next level of attainment based on the National Curriculum criteria.
