Unit 1 Design- a-Swatch

Students will design and make an accurate model of a novelty wristwatch and presentation box based on a theme.

(Catalogues with watches in will be required for one piece of homework.)

Unit 2 Textiles – ‘In the bag’

The project will introduce students to the subject of Textiles Technology. Students will learn a variety of new skills, from cutting out fabric to learning how to use a sewing machine in the correct manner. Students will then be asked to put their skills into practice by designing and making a drawstring bag.

Unit 3 Kitchen Know-How

Students will look at safety, the purpose of equipment, how to use gas and electric cookers, how to follow basic recipes and how to produce plans of work.

(Practical work will be centred around ‘healthy eating’ and ingredients will be required for most double lessons.)

Unit 4 Wood and Weather

Students will investigate natural and man-made structures. They will then design and make a weather vane, primarily out of wood and built to withstand the elements.

(Pictures of wind powered objects will be required for one piece of homework)
