Dear Parents
What a lovely long sunny summer break we had this year. The children have come back to school looking very relaxed and happy.
We extend a particularly warm welcome to the children and parents who are new to Huish – we hope your children will have a very positive
time at our school. We are also welcoming new staff to the school. Mrs Gapper is our new School Secretary, Mrs Bell, Mrs Overd , Mrs Isaacs
and Mrs Ferneyhough are joining our team of class/learning support assistants and Mrs Maber is our new lunchtime supervisor. We hope their
time with us will be enjoyable and successful.
The school has been a very busy place during the summer holidays. We now have a new ramp to facilitate disabled access to the Elliott
buildings and have created a glazed partition for our ICT suite. This will really improve the teaching in that area.
We have had new carpets fitted in Classes 11, 12, 13 and 14 and have carried out our usual re-decorating programme so that the school
looks 'spick and span!' My thanks to Mr and Mrs Norris and Manor Builders for all their hard work.
You will be delighted to hear that this Saturday the school won (again!) the Outstanding School Award in the Yeovil in Bloom competition,
our sixth success! I would particularly like to thank Mrs Dulwich for all her hard work in developing the school environment. James Tostevin,
Erin Bennett, Jonathan Ashe and Francesca Silcox joined Mrs Toal and I at the presentation ceremony. You can see them pictured on our front
cover.
I am sure 2003 and 2004 will bring new challenges and successes.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
Yours sincerely
V E CAMPBELL
Headteacher
Yeovil Christian Support Trust
I know parents will wish to join me in thanking the Yeovil Christian Support Trust, The Gateway, who have given the school a very generous
donation of £560 for class resources. They were made aware of the budget difficulties that schools are facing this year and have responded
to Yeovil Schools in this very positive way.
School Uniform
Now we are over the new terms "rush" for buying school uniform, we are going to restrict our sales times to Friday Mornings 8:45
– 10:00 am . If you need items of uniform or wish to place orders, please visit the school between these times ONLY. We now have a new fleece
available with a shower proof coating. These, like the fleeces, can be ordered through the school. The costs are 24 – 32" - £14.50,
XS, S, M & L - £16.50.
Contact Address and Phone Numbers
It is important that the school is aware of any alterations in contact numbers or address changes. Please let the office know so that we
are sure we can reach you or family members in the event of an emergency.
Allergies/Medical Information
Please be sure to let the school know if your child has any medical needs or allergies. We do need to be sure we have Epipens, Asthma Inhalers
etc. in school for your child's use.
Year 2 (Classes 5 & 6) – Meeting Your Children After School
We have become aware of how difficult and crowded it is for you to meet your children outside the drama room doors (particularly with the
number of pushchairs on that narrow path). Mrs Patterson and Miss Stott will therefore take your children down onto the Infant playground
so you will have more space to wait. So, please meet your children there with the parents of children in Classes 1, 2, 3 and 4. We do hope
this will be more helpful.
Annual Charity Cake Sale
Following the House Captains' Elections on 26 September, the School Houses will be organising this year's charity fund-raising Cake Sales.
The proceeds from the sales this year will be decided by the children.
We would be most grateful if you can support the children's efforts by providing a few small cakes for your child (classes 5 – 14 ONLY)
to donate to the cake sale on the DAY allocated to his/her House. ALL children in the school will have an opportunity to buy cakes at 20p
each on the day of the sales. Please send the money to school on the day of each cake sale in a named envelope to your child's class teacher.
The day allocated to each House is as follows:
CAXTON |
- Wednesday 1st October |
NEWTON |
- Wednesday 8th October |
SHAKESPEARE |
- Wednesday 15th October |
SCOTT |
- Wednesday 22nd October |
Some Reminders!!!!!!
Cars On Site
Please DO NOT bring cars onto the school site.
Parking permits for Huish Car Park are available from the school office.
Meeting Your Children
Please do meet your children (classes 7-14) in the designated "safe" area between the bottom two sets of gates outside the school.
This enables staff to access cars if they have meetings to attend, sporting events/matches, etc.
Dinner Money
Please note that dinner money is payable on THURSDAYS for meals taken the following week. The cost per meal is £1.40 a day (£7.00
per week). Thank you.
Walking Into School
Please remind your children to walk up the steps to reach the big playground in the morning. The grassy slope is for emergency vehicles
only. Many thanks.
Huish Web Site
Our address is www.huish.somerset.sch.uk
Do visit the site to find copies of the School Prospectus, Huish Headlines etc. There is also a section with photographs of recent events and
even games to play on-line!
Meet The Teacher Evening – Classes 1 – 14
On Thursday 25th September we are holding our Parent/Teacher Evening following the same format as last year. The aim of the evening is to
run through the curriculum for each class for the Autumn Term and the pattern of lessons and homework throughout the week. There will also
be opportunities after the talk by the teachers for you to share any concerns about how your child is settling into their new class. Detailed
discussions of your child's progress will take place in the Spring Term's parent consultations.
The teachers will be in their year group classrooms and will gave a short talk to all parents starting at 7:00 pm and another at 7:30
pm. We have given two slots for the talk to enable parents to visit other classes if they have more than one child in the school. We will
also give out our curriculum sheets at these meetings. If you have more than one child, please remember to collect any additional curriculum
sheets from the other classes.
As this is mainly an 'information' giving evening, we hope to avoid any queues for appointments. Mrs McGrouther (SENCO) will be very
pleased to see any parent whose child is on the special needs register and will be available throughout the evening in her room.
PLEASE NOTE : - This year we are introducing these meetings for Classes 1 and 2 as well.
