January 2003
Dear Parents

Happy New Year! Another year with lots to look forward to in school. Year 5 will be visiting Mill-on-the-Brue at the end of the month for their residential activity week. We do hope it will be warmer by then!

Our choir will be taking part in the South Somerset Music Spectacular - we will give you more information later this term about dates and times. We will also be holding our Parent/Teacher evenings this term and our information sessions for parents of children in Year 2 and Year 6 about the national tests they will be doing in the summer. As usual, a busy time ahead of us.

Yours sincerely

V E CAMPBELL
Headteacher

RemindersTop of page

  • Please do not send children to school before 8:40 am. As you are aware, they are not supervised before that time.
  • A number of children are also consistently arriving late. Children are registered at 8:50 am and some are missing the start of their first lesson which upsets them and disrupts the rest of the class.
  • PLEASE do not bring cars onto the school site. It endangers both your child and others in the school. There are parking facilities in the public car park to enable you to drop children in the morning and collect them in the afternoon (free of charge if you display the green card available from the school office).

StaffingTop of page

We are delighted to welcome Mrs Bland to our school. She is working with Class 5 to cover Miss Stott's maternity leave. We also welcome back Mrs Patterson to Class 6 on Monday 20 January. I would like to thank Mrs Redman and Mrs Hockley who I know have enjoyed working with the children since November.

Phab - Integrating people with and without physical disabilitiesTop of page

As you may remember one of our parents, Miss Michelle Brown, ran a stall at our PTFA Craft Fair to raise funds for the charity Phab. She has recently written to me to say she was delighted to be able to donate £68. She is also running in the London Marathon to help this worthwhile cause. She may approach you to see if you will sponsor her. I know we all wish her every success and will make every effort to support her.

Thank YouTop of page

Thank you for all the compliments we received about our Infant Nativity Play and our Carol Concert at St John's. They were beautiful occasions and reflected the spirit of Christmas so well. We have been able to donate because of your generosity £199 to Children in Need and £183 to Help the Aged.

Update of InformationTop of page

Could we please remind parents that it is important that we are kept up to date with essential information. If you have changed address or telephone numbers (this happens more frequently with mobile phones,) please be sure to let the school office have that information. This is particularly important when a child is ill and we need to contact you. Also can you please let us know if your child requires any particular medication, e.g. an Epi-pen for a nut allergy or an Asthma inhaler.

Our School Nurse has asked us to include her number should you wish to contact her about any concerns or advice :
Carrie Hartley, Preston Road Clinic - 423981
